I have to admit - I do love new toys, and cell phones are no exception…
I recently dropped my old phone due to poor service and replaced it with a shiny new Samsung A900. I did get to transfer the number, so all I really wanted to do is tell Y! Mobile about the change in the handset.
I go through the registration process and discover that Y! doesn’t have my model listed as available - the nearest is the A700 which isn’t really the same.
Does anyone out there know how to get the newer models listed on the service?

We recently posted about
what a visit is worth and the importance of setting goals in determining a visit’s value. We often get asked, “How do I come up with goal values if my site is not an e-commerce site?” The answer: you can probably come up with intelligent values for your own set of goals. For example, if you know that 1 out of every 100 PDF downloads on your site results in a $500
sale, you can assign a value of $5 to that download. Other examples of goals are newsletter sign-ups, product sales, and visits to your “contact us” page.
Once you have defined a value for these pages (which you can set in the Goal Value field within your Goal Settings page), you can better conceptualize the value of your website and your online advertising. Then you can explain it to others with data, to back up any marketing or design choices you make. You can also measure the success of your design or marketing experiments, by observing goal values to find out what works best.
To learn more, take a look at the Conversion University article “
Monetizing Non-Ecommerce Sites.”

I noticed last night a new update for the Y! Toolbar for Firefox extension has been released, taking us up to v1.2.1.20060626
I don’t notice anything that’s significantly changes, maybe our readers can help me out there (or the devs themselves).
As usual, either grab it from the Y! Toolbar site, or just have Firefox check for updates.

From the comments to my last post, it looks like I’m not the only one that’s taken longer than the 10 days to get into the new Y! Photos beta.
It appears that there is a bug with Y! Users that also have tied their ID and Phones together on Y! Mobile. Maybe it’s related to the Y! Photos Mobile beta that I posted about before.
I’m told that this is why my access is delayed, how many others have the same problem is unknown.
The good news is that the developers are aware of the problem and are squashing that bug - hopefully that’ll get us on soon…

This script will allow you to copy files from other server that you own. You only need to specify the ftp host, ftp user name, ftp password, and the folder where the files to be copied are stored. You need to upload this script in the folder where you want to transfer the files. Be sure that the folder where you want to transfer the files is in chmod 777.
<?
$HOST=”domain.com”; //change domain.com with your ftp host
$UN=”username”; //ftp user name
$PW=”pass”; //ftp password
$DIR=”www/location/”; //location of files you want to copy
$conn = ftp_connect($HOST);
if(!$conn) {
exit(”Could not connect to server: $HOST\n”);
}else{
echo “connected”;
}
//exit;
if(!ftp_login($conn,$UN,$PW)) {
ftp_quit($conn);
exit(”Could not log in\n”);
}
echo “current directory is ” .ftp_pwd($conn);
ftp_chdir($conn,$DIR);
echo “<p>Now the current directory is ” .ftp_pwd($conn);
$files = ftp_nlist($conn,”.”);
for($i=0;$i<count($files);$i++) {
echo “Saving $files[$i] <br>”;
if(!ftp_get($conn,$files[$i],$files[$i],FTP_BINARY)) {
echo “Could not download {$files[$i]}\n”;
}
}
ftp_quit($conn);

Today, Yahoo! opened a public beta for the new, rebuilt from the ground up, version of Y! Messenger for Apple Mac users. It requires OS X and includes many things the Windows version has had for some time such as Avatars/display images (not just smilies anymore), new sounds, webcam support and changeable status messages. It is equipped to be interoperable with Microsoft Live (MSN) Messenger when it and Y! Messenger open the gates (no pun intended).
I recently found myself with a Mac with OS X on my desk and have been using both Y! Messenger and iChat. The older Mac Y! Messenger was really crippled compared to what I was accustomed to on my WinXP machines. After all, it hadn’t been updated in a long, long time. This new beta version addresses all of that.
My office mate is a die-hard Apple fan(atic). He hungrily downloaded and installed the new Y! Messenger for Mac. Upon launching it, he exclaimed, “Oh man, it’s a complete knock-off of iChat!” He then listed off several new features as evidence. I pointed out that all these features have been available in the Y! Messenger for Windows for some time. That seemed to dissuade his concern about Yahoo! ripping off dear old mother Apple.
One item that made me go “Oh!” is the mail alert that appears on the desktop momentarily. It is semi-translucent black like a Widget. Very slick indeed. Yes, I guess I am easily amused.

Paypal’s problem to extend their service to all countries limit some online marketer to make business. And now google anounce that they are going to release their own ecurrency like paypal called gbuy.
I hope that gbuy will be available to all online marketers. According to news gbuy will be release today but until now I don’t see any update or word from google.

Yesterday we added another report tailored specifically to AdWords users. The new report called AdWords Keyword Positions displays search position correlated with visits and conversions for each of your keywords. Drill down on any keyword to see its display position. Positions T1 through T3 indicate that your ad was promoted to the top of the search results page. Positions 1 through 8 indicate placement or location in the right-hand column of ads with 1 being the top position. 9 through 16 indicate the same on the second page of ads and so on. Here’s an example of the position distribution of clicks on ads for searches on the keyword Google Pen in our account:
AdWords Keywords Positions is useful for advertisers in determining the value of your keywords and bid amounts in relation to your ad’s actual position or rank on Google search results pages. This report can be used in conjunction with the
Position Preference feature in AdWords to optimize around ad position in the following way: the AdWords Keyword Positions report in Google Analytics shows conversion rates and CTR for a keyword’s results position — and then, with Position Preference in AdWords, you can select that position as a target. We hope you find this level of integration between AdWords and Analytics to be useful.
You’ll see data in this new report if:
- Your AdWords and Analytics accounts are linked
- You’ve turned on Auto-tagging in your AdWords account settings
One more thing: if you don’t yet have a Google Analytics account, we’ve cleared out the waiting list for invitations. Once you’ve signed up within a few days you should get an email message with an invitation code.

This days it’s hard or near to imposible to find a single word domain, even in your local language. So most of us have no choice but to find available domains using a combination of two or three keywords. It is important to consider the following question, do I use a hypen or not between keywords?
In SEO concept with hypen is better than no hypen, but in my point of view as web surfer I prefer no hypen. Because it’s easier to type letters continuesly.
But if you’re concern with SEO I recommend using hypen between words.

As we’ve posted, the new Yahoo! Photos has gone into Closed Beta. Some of us have been lucky enough to get on the new version earlier than others.
When I requested the beta access, it mentioned it would take 7-10 business days to convert me - well that was yesterday and I’m still not there.
I’m guessing that demand was greater than the capacity, but I would’ve liked being told that when I signed up.
Any of our readers actually sign up and get converted yet? I’m going to stick with my Flickr Pro account for now…
